DVD drive doesn't work after win update

Hi,
I have installed media player9 and I can no longer play
DVD's on my DVD ROM drive (Drive E when I load up a DVD
system thinks drive E is empty, always comes up "Insert
DVD in Drive E:" before loading Media 9, drive played
DVD's. I can still play music CD's and Data CD's but it
wont play DVD's. My DVD writer drive still works ok
(Drive D) it plays DVDs etc, before and after installing
player 9. The DVD tab is available in the media player.
But I guess the setup of this must be ok as drive D works.
This problem also effects my other players etc PowerDVD I
have also tried to upgrade this to the most rercent
version this made no difference. My burner software is
the same it doesn't see a DVD in drive E.

I have also loaded up all software and driver updates
from the Microsoft support site. Drive E still doesn't
work.

The PC thinks I have the following drive.
E : Ver 5.00 IDE DVD-ROM x 16
I have opened up the system and the actual drive is made
by "Ultima Electronics Corp" and has model No. DHM-G48R.
No driver updates are available on the site!!!!!
Arrrggghhhh!!!!

If I take my system back to it's out of box condition
using my restore disc, everything works again, but I want
to keep up with the latest updates.
