I have an older IBM Aptiva 590 that I purchased in 1999.
A few months ago I upgraded my Windows 98 to Windows XP.
But when I did this I got a message that stanted that the
DVD Decoder was incompatible with the new system. Can
anyone tell me what I should do to get the DVD running
again so that I can do backup & etc?????????????
Thank You
Neil

You'll have to purchase a DVD Decoder that is Windows XP compatible.

Update your DVD software. Your Win98 DVD player software is probably
not compatible with XP. You can try re-installing it, but in all
likelihood you will need a version that's compatible with XP. You can
actually use WMP to play back DVD video and audio provided you have
the proper codecs installed. Go here to download free codecs:

Look for and download "DVDpack.msi".

DVD Decoder relates to playing DVD movies. It should *not* impact at
all on using the DVD drive for data files. You might well find that the
DVD player program originally installed does in fact still work if you
reinstall it (I found that with PowerDVD ver 3.5)- or there are 'codecs'
that you can download. I would pay a little for a good one rather than
trust to freeware - one is at
