My computer just got wipped out by a virus and i had to reinstall everything.
All of my spyware and apps work fine but for some reason media player won't
play dvds. The media player says that i need to install a dvd decoder but the
computer is from 2001 but I have XP sp2 on it and I know that it can play
dvds because it played them before it was whipped out. So does anyone know
how to fix this, please help me!!!

You'll have to dig through your software to find where you installed the DVD
decoder from before. Maybe it came with your video card.

Windows doesn't come with a DVD decoder. MS would have to pay licensing fees for each windows sold but not all people watch DVDs on computers. Most DVDs come with a DVD player that include the Codec (so if windows included it as well you would need to pay for two licenses). Media Player will use most codecs installed by DVD players.
