DVD/CDRW problem

OS is XP Home. I have a DVD/CDRW drive that was working fine for almost
a year until recently. For whatever reason< it will recognize and play
DVD but will not acknowledge a data or music disk. When attempting to
get tracks from a music disk, I get an "insert disk" popup, same effect
when trying to read a data disk. No difference when using Easy CD or
Explorer, it will not recognize that a disk is indeed present.
Suggestions please?

Do you have the latest version of Easy CD Creator? Have you tried removing
and reinstalling Easy CD Creator.
