DVD/CD-ROM drive won't read discs

Darren

I have recently fitted a new graphics card (an NVIDIA
GeForce4 Ti 4200) to my PC and since doing so my DVD/CD-
ROM drive doesn't seem to read any discs.

When I insert a disc it makes a bit of noise and the
green light at the front of the drive comes on and
flashes a bit as I'd normally expect it to, however,
that's it... nothing else happens after that!! When I go
into 'My Computer' the drive is still shown but when I
double-click on it I just get a message saying "Please
insert a disk into drive Q:".

Any ideas how I can solve this??

Thanks,

Darren

This sounds like a hardware problem. One way to try to verify this is to
boot off a bootable CD (such as the Windows XP CD) - this would rule out
software problem.

try putting any valid data cd in the drive and reboot and
then see if the drive will read any kind of disc (data,
music, etc.)

I'm encountering the same problems also. But as for me, it's only DVD's that it won't read. It reads CD's fine. When I inserted a DVD movie, Windows Media Player says I don't have a DVD Decoder. So I even got a Nvidia DVD Decoder, it didn't seem to help. Any ideas?
