Hi,

I have a Goldstar/LG CD-RW and four months ago added a Pioneer 106 DVD-RW
and am using XP-PRO.

Today they both appear missing in My Computer and Device Manager shows
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be
corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

I have not loaded any new CD or Packet-Writing software for over a months
but once previously after uninstalling Instant Write they disappeared with
a different message 'drivers ok but hardware problem'. This was solved by
System Restore to previous day.

I have tried System Restore to 3 different days with no luck. I have
uninstalled drives in Device Manager and let new Hardware find them but the
same problem persists. They are found by BIOS but not working within
Windows.

Help please anybody?

Hmmmmmm, wonder if this is the problem ??

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware.
The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

This might be a good clue.

Hmmmm,

What are you saying, anything helpful?

Roll Back would help if the driver HAD become corrupted, and both drivers
suddenly at once?
Your sarcasm does not help one bit, but then neither does your anonymous
address.

Cheers for the help

lol..... Your address has been mined by the Mungers, you
never put your address in a news group. Hope you like porn.

Read the error, why do you think you got it in the first
place. Re-install the drivers, if it can't read them then
it can't use them.

Thanks CW,

I was pretty sure it wasnt a driver problem, I had already tried fresh
installs of drivers. The link you gave referred to a corrupt registry after
EasyCD had been on system. I made changes and, superb, drives reappeared.
All cd writing software needed re-installing but that was a little price to
pay.

Packet-writing software is a real pain especially if you have had more than
one type on (not at once!)
(unfortunately I needed to, to be able to read Pioneer set-top recorder UDF
2.01 files - only VOB/Pinnacle Instant copes with these. About time Nero and
EasyCD drag'n'drop software catches up.)

Thanks again,

You probably had some residual references to drivers from that
incompatible software - and the files they were pointing at have at last
vanished, leaving hanging references. To tidy up, get a registry patch
file, cdgone.reg, from www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip, extract it,
r-click on it and merge it into the registry

You will then need to reinstall any burning software that you *do* use.

Alex,

Thanks for the advice, it is probably an automated version of the registry
deletions I made (see post above) and yes I did have to re-install EASY CD
CREATOR and NERO. It was the first time I had used Easy CD (not packet
writing) for a long while and somehow this may have triggered it off. Will
keep this utility in case (when!) it happens again.
