Verify that the firmware update is for your model drive and is newer than
the current firmware.

Suggest more details on what happens when your try to burn DVDs. As I
recall, you can have only one burner.

Disconnect the slave drive, make sure the Address Jumper on the
remaining DVD is set to Master (Not Cable Select) - retry the
Firmware upgrade. Verify the jumper on the other drive is Slave,
reconnect and try to do a firmware flash on it with the master still
connected. If either operation fails, replace the 40-Pin IDE cable.

Read the firmware upgrade instructions carefully;
in most cases you have to uninstall any packet writing software *AND* put
the drive in PIO mode.

Check the drives and make sure that the jumpers are correctly set (both use
CSel or Master/Slave config.) Do not mix/match CSel with another
Master/Slave drive.

Check and update Nero. You can still update Nero, even if it is a "bundled
version". If Nero is a bundled version (came with a drive) then you must
use it with that specific drive. Bundled versions of Nero are "locked" to
one drive, usually the make of the drive that is was "shipped" with.

Have you always had those two drives at the same time connected and working?
If yes then the problem might be with Nero. Try Nero's tech support or
another program. If no then disconnect one drive and try burning again.

While the PC has its AC power cable disconnected, open the PC case, and
disconnect the ide ribbon cable and power cable from one of the DVD burners.
Be sure to grab the connector, not the wires on the power cable. See if the
connected DVD burner can be firmware updated at that point.

Its "Aopen", one word.

If you're running INCD, close it with ctrl-alt-delete before attempting a
firmware update.
