DV capture

I am trying to capture video from my DV recorder through
the firewire connection and somehow the connection is not
recognized by any of the capture software. Anybody has
idea what may be happening?

Here are the details:
recorder: jvc GR-DLV-805
OS: Windows XP pro
1394: ASUS P4C800-E on-board + now I have a ULEAD DV
board installed; according to the device manager they are
both functional
DirectX 9.0b installed

No DV capture driver (???) is found anywhere on my
computer

What else can I try?

You have to download the fix from Microsoft.com.
Search "recongnize a 1394 camera"

My version of that motherboard has onboard Firewire. If yours also has it
onboard, and the "Ulead DV board" is a Firewire card, you need to disable
the onboard Firewire.

That motherboard has some issues with its onboard firewire port. That issue
has been kicked around in the alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.asus quite a bit
lately. You might try searching that venue for prior posts. Try searching
that newsgroup for 'fried' in the subject line. If the "Ulead DV board" is
not a Firewire card, you might want to disable onboard Firewire and try a
card. I am using a Via based card (a Lucent chipset card didn't work) and
everything works well. In my case, the onboard Firewire recognized my Canon
ZR-10 mini-DV cam, but I had other problems. A card might help in your case,
and it will take just a few minutes to try it.

I must emphasize that you should NOT be running both onboard and add-in card
Firewire in the same system at the same time. Run one or the other, but not
both.
