DV-AVI (Pal) -- AVI files have no meta-data fields!!

I have movies saved in DV-AVI (PAL) because that is the best quality WMM
allows for. Unfortunately AVI files do not have any fields for met-data
input, nothing editable . How can I add information or fields to AVI files,
is there a program available to do that, or something from the group that
invented the AVI standard.

I have tried putting information in the properties tab in WMM, but this does
not show up on the outputted file.

I thought about saving the file as a 'High quality video (PAL)', which is
WMV (VBR), but this would egrade the quality. So if AVI cannot have fields,
why not and how do I convert to WMV lossless?

I only want to go to WMV if AVI cannot have fields, why is that, its stupid.

Hello,

The below link is to the free Windows Media Encoder. It gives the ability
to add fields to the file it creates as well as giving the ability to
create just about every windows format file that's available . If you are
looking to add a "watermark" you may have to pay rather a lot...I have seen
software advertised...expensive stuff

I have had time to test it and try the options. First off what I want is the
Video AVI files completely converted into WMV without loss of quality, I am
doing this so I can get access to meta- data fields. As far as I can tell

Audio: CBR: None (PCM)
Video: CBR: Full Frames (Uncompressed)

gives me the quality I want. Every other combination I have tried does not
get the blacks black, they are grey - and I want a perfect copy.

The problem I have is that when I copy with these settings the video
produced is five times bigger than the original and more worryingly does not
play, only fuzzy lines come up, but the sound is perfect.

I have tried as many work arounds and comprimises as possible and have
wittled the problem down to frame video size. PAL default is 384x288 but my
AVI's are 720x576.

If I copy at the PCM and Uncompressed settings above to retain the original
quality in the defaul PAL 384x288 size the video works fine, the blacks are
black. However if I tick the option 'Same as video input' [video size]
720x576 it plays back fuzzy.

I tried a work around and tried PAL 384x576, of course the shape was funny
but it worked, but when I did 720x288 it was a no go, meaning that the 720
was the problem.

I have checked help and it says [Hardware profiles for video] that to get
720x576 I will need "Maximum bit rate 10 Mbps" but when I play back the file
it shows as 125.43 Mbps, I cannot change this because the setting is set to
Uncompressed and is greyed out.

So what am I to do, I do not want to degrade the film, I have an NVIDIA
GeForce FX 5600XT, never had anything that wouldn't play and the original
AVIs play.

Any help greatly appreciated (I have been using the Windows Media Encoder
SDK to convert from AVI to WMA)
