Duplicating Emails

Hi Everyone,
I have a lot of users out in the field who download all their email from our
Exchange 2007 server to their laptop. What I would like to do is when a new
email arrives on the laptop it goes into their inbox but also gets copied to
a second PST file the user never sees (maybe in a hidden partition on the
laptop?). The users run either Outlook 2003 or 2007

I have thought on creating a rule in Outlook but the user can modify /
delete this rule at anytime.

Does anyone else do this and if so how?

Regards
John

What exactly are you trying to achieve with this?
Maybe it can achieved in a better an easier way than you are trying now.

We are trying to keep a copy of all emails recieved on the laptop that the
users can't go and delete from. We have had occasions where someone leaves
the business but deletes email before they leave but we then need the emails
at a later date. If these emails were also stored in an alternate location
the IT department could get access to then if required

Then you really shouldn't go this client-side route.
There are already options available in Exchange (2003 and even more in 2007)
to deal with mail compliancy and retention. Look for "Managed Folders" for
instance. Other options would be to use a 3rd party archiving tool which
integrates with Exchange.

This way things can be managed centrally. Also keep in mind that if you go
for a client side solution and the user really wants to erase his/here
trails, then he/she will find it. The user cannot do this when it's at
Exchange level.

Hi Roady,
Thanks for your reply.
I will have a look into managed folders.

Can you recommend any 3rd party archiving tools I can loo into as well.

Hi John,

You're welcome! :)

There are many archiving tools, but the one from GFI is quite popular;
http://www.gfi.com/mailarchiver/

This also allows you to keep not-tampered-with copies of the emails (not all
archiving tools have this option).
