Control Panel duplicate icons.

*.cpl files are Control Panel extensions, they show up in the Control Panel.

Do a Search on your machine for *.cpl files.

Read this.

HOW TO: Search For Hidden Or System Files In Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302347

Keep in mind that there are normally two *.cpl files with the same exact
name, one each in these two folders...
C:\WINDOWS\system32
and
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache

If there are two of any of the *.cpl files in C:\WINDOWS\system32, move the
duplicates with (2) after the file name *.cpl (2) or Copy of *.cpl to
another folder and keep opening the Control panel to see the result.

There can be a couple of other reasons for duplicate icons in the Control
Panel.

When you're sure that you have things in hand, delete the duplicates.

Look for two items in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Explorer\ControlPanel\NameSpace

Hope this helps. Let us know.
