Duplicate Folders

Cheryl

When I save a document in a folder called My Documents, it saves all in
another folder called Cheryl's document at the same time. If you delete, it
deletes in both too. Any ideas of what is happening and how to eliminate?
Thanks

They are the same folder - It's just displayed in two places in Windows Explorer.

First, at the top, this one is because you have the 'special' link on the desktop (if
you note the little "line of ants" they lead back to the desktop).

Secondly, further on down, this may have the documents folders for all users
displayed in "My Computer" but this time - with the user's name attached so you know
which ones they belong to.

In actual fact - they are all called "My Documents" so it would be a bit confusing if
Windows didn't call them by their individual user's names.

Also there should be the "Shared Documents" folder shown up in the same group as
"Cheryl's Documents"

Do not worry about it - they are the same folder - just displayed in two places - you
haven't really got a duplicate.

(Tip - if you remove the "My Documents" shortcut from the desktop - one of the
folders you see will disappear in Explorer)

"Cheryl" is your account name?
Same folder. One is being shown to you as "Cheryl's Documents" because of a
simple hidden file in the folder.

Start button --> RUN --> type in (quotation marks too):

"%userprofile%\My Documents\"

--> Click OK.

That's the folder if you have not moved it elsewhere.

"C:\Documents and Settings\Cheryl\My Documents"<- likely the full path...

DESKTOP.INI (hidden) is in the "My Documents" folder and can make it look
like "Cheryl's Documents" is the name of the folder.
