Duplicate driver being installed for ethernet controller

This issue has me baffled.

All of a sudden, a second copy of the device driver for
my ethernet controller is being automatically loaded and
they conflict with each other. Now my ethernet port will
not function. Prior to this time, it worked fine.

I have a 3Com 3C920 Fast Ethernet Controller in my Dell
Latitude laptop. All of a sudden, a second copy of the
driver is getting installed. I uninstalled both drivers
and the two (duplicate) drivers were loaded again. I
repeated this and it happened again. I cannot figure out
what is going on.

The two drivers appearantly conflict with each other and
I cannot get a connection on the port.

Advice is appreciated.

Try disabling one of the drivers. In your Device Manager
right click the one you DONT want, and disable it. This
should keep it disabled even when you restart your
computer. Otherwise just experiment, like uninstall them,
AND remove the actual hardware from your laptop, then
start the pc and see if it tries installing any driver
for an Ethernet card, etc. etc.
