duplicate drive mappings

I have a pc that we normally have a mapped drive W. After
a short period of time, all accessable drive letters are
mapped with the same path as W. Does anyone know why
these drives would automatically map like this. I can not
find an article on the knowledge base at all. User had
this problem in 2000 and was upgraded to XP. Critical
updates have been applied.
