Duplicate Documents Folder?

J

Jim Marshall

On my Windows XP system I have 2 totally separate folders for My Documents.
One, called "Owner" seems to be in the normal
subfolder under "Documents and Settings" under the C: Directory

The other is a completely separate folder which is the last folder under the
C:
Directory (one below my "Shared Documents" folder, above "My Network
Places") and seems to have thesame number and kinds of files and takes up
about the same space as the
other (this one is called "Owner's Documents"). If I delete something from
the first (under Documents and Settings) it also gets deleted from the
separate Owner's Documents folder below. Also, If I search for a file within
this 'Documents' folder (either one) it does show up twice, with the same
attributes and file size.

Both of these are distinct from the shortcut folder called "My Documents"
(the first folderunder "Desktop") and that, I know, is XP's shortcut
way of referring to the My Documents folder.

Is this normal? I used PC Relocator software initially to transfer my old
stuff to the new PC. Is this "Owner's Documents" duplicate-If it is, any
suggestions on how to delete it, since it seems to also go back to my
legitimate (presumably) Owner folder.

Hi,

They are the same folder, and this is normal. The real one is under
\Documents and settings, the other is just an alternate view of it. "Owner"
is the default user account name preinstalled system makers use for the user
when they first logon to a new system.

Rick, Thank you. Is it natural when I search for a document that it be
listed twice, with the same attributes and file size, etc.? That's what
made me think I had a duplicate folder entirely.

Hi Jim,

Again, normal, though I don't think that was intentional.
