"Duplex"(Double sided) freeware print alignment....

Hi!

I need to print a jpg image on one side of a sheet of A4 and another,
same sized, image on the other side such that the two images are
aligned.

My printer is a standard inkjet (though I will be printing to glossy
photo paper to avoid the ink seeping through to the other side)

I have a linux host (and a base XP host if need be) to achieve this.
I already have gimp, open office org etc.

Is there any special software available for this, any tricks in the
gimp, oo (or other software), or a manual method I can can apply?

I realise it will rely on careful loading of the paper into the
printer and will probably dissolve into a nasty bit of maths to try
and work out the margins/borders but I would like to arrive at a fool-
proof solution (where I am the fool) that will allow me to easily do
this with different printers and image sizes.

Thanks

I know of no simple way to accomplish this. Each printer has slightly
differing tolerances, and the paper loading, being a very mechanical
process, is more likely to be off. It also depends on the brand of
printer and the size of the paper path.

It usually just takes some careful testing, and still expect some
variation. Test with a lined box with nothing inside. It's easier to
see which way things need to be moved, is much faster and uses very
little ink. You ma also find adding something to the butt edge of the
margin position can help with certain types of movement required, using
a piece of cardboard or plastic and some tape to improvise.

Best of luck, it isn't usually easy to accomplish.
