While tring to install a new graphics card, I mistakenly uninstalled th
NVidia Display Drivers from my Remove or Change Programs page.
Instantly, the monitor went blank.
This is a real dilemna, as without a monitor, I can do nothing t
restore the files or to run the Restoration DVD.
I can't enter Safe Mode, at least not with what I know at present.
Some people seem to think I should be able to see
a log-on page, even without the drivers, but that isn't happening.
Will I have to take it to a repair shop, or does someone know of a wa
to get a functional picture on my screen without the drivers? Thank
for any advice

You should still be able to use your NVidia in VGA mode. Choose VGA from the boot menu. This would indicate NVidia is installed and you uninstalled the VGA driver (which Safe mode uses). VGA mode uses the normal driver in VGA mode.

Thanks, David. Your reply was helpful and in fact, I've just fixed th
problem. All I had to do was remove the inactive NVIDIA graphics car
from a PCI slot and everything is restored. Even the "NVIDIA Displa
Drivers" that I thought I'd removed, is back in the lineup on th
Add/Remove screen. Oddly, the display drivers listing is on top of th
5 total NVIDIA programs, when before, it was in No. 2 position. Ther
is obviously a complex relationship between the basic drivers and th
ones contained either in the hardware of the graphics card or from on
section of the installation CD-ROM that did get installed, calle
"WMD".
Now, I'm wondering if I will try again to install the graphics card
perhaps running the CD with the card not in the PCI slot. Also, a
advice page from NVIDIA says to disable download accelerator an
anti-virus programs, as they will interfere with installation.
Microsoft has probably installed a download accelerator, although
thought I'd chosen not to enable it. I do have Webroot's Spy-sweepe
running on minimized mode, which I will turn off completely, althoug
I'm not sure if that would even interfere will installation?? On
problem that might have existed during the time my monitor was blank
was that I had the screen resolution raised from the basic 800 X 600 t
1,024 X 768, which is required by my Ulead video-editing program.
Perhaps if it had been at 800 X 600, there would have been a pictur
showing, even before I removed the card.
I'll experiment on that. Thanks again

That could have been it. Refresh rates too high for that monitor at that resolution. Normally though the monitor tells you (some cryptic message about Scan out of Range.)

Safe mode doesn't use NVidia drivers at all but some IBM standard from years ago that all video cards support.
