dualview: making monitor #2 the "primary" display

I have a Thinkpad T40 laptop with ATI Radeon 7500. I started using
dualview mode so I can use both the laptop screen as well as an
external 19" monitor. The problem with dualview (which is different
than multiple monitors, which does not work with laptops) is that the
laptop screen must be the primary one.

I would like to have all applications launch on the 19" monitor. I only
want to move one or two windows to the laptop screen. I was able to
move the taskbar to the 19" monitor, but when I launch any app, it
still opens in the laptop! Is there some way to accomplish this? I have
ATI's Hydravision software, but that doesn't seem to do this either.

you can try www.ultramon.com

that gives you some options to switch the primary monitor... however
laptops want to have their display as primary ones.. its worth a try though

Finally got it this to work! Despite the Windows XP documentation
clearly stating that the laptop screen must be the primary one, I was
able to get the 19" external to be the primary.

Here's what I did wrong: The first time, I toggled my laptop display to
enable both the laptop and external monitor (showing the same screen).
Then I clicked on the #2 display to "extend desktop onto this monitor".

Here's the best way to do it: Toggle the laptop display so that only
the external monitor is enabled. Now the external monitor is #1, and
the laptop display is #2. Now you can click "extend desktop onto this
monitor", which makes the laptop display the secondary one.

After the app, drag it across to the 19" monitor. Close it and then restart
the app.

It should appear on the 19" monitor. Probably.

Buck,

I ahve the same problem as you (HP tablet pc), tried your suggestion, but
can't get it to work. I can toggle the display so that onlt the external is
on and is the primary monitor but when I enable the laptop display and extend
my desktop to the laptop monitor, then it reverts to being the primary. Have
you discovered any new tricks on how to get this to work?
P.B.
