Dual OS with XP Pro

I have XP installed on my pc and partitioned the hard disk to install windows
2000 which I did. When I boot from Windows 200 it is ok no problem but If I
boot from XP I get a message "Windows 2000 could not start because the
following file is missing or corrupt: windows\system32\config\systemd startup
options fro windows 2000 press F8"

I do not start from 2000 but it looks as if it is booting from it.

Any idea??

Hi JohnSmith1,

Assuming that you're using Windows' built-in boot manager and not a
third-party utility, when you installed 2000 the XP version of the bootloader
files (NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM ) were overwritten with the 2000
version........the XP version recognizes and will boot 2000, but the 2000
version doesn't recognize and therefore will not boot XP. Boot into 2000, and
copy the NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM files from the i386 folder on the XP install
CD to the root directory of the system drive (presumably, C drive).

The recommended way to install a dual boot is install the older OS first
then the newer. You did the opposite. The Win2k doesn't understand XP so
it's boot loader doesn't know how to load it. See this link on how to
repair it.
