Dual Operating Systems

I am currently running Windows Home Media edition, Can I install a second
hard drive with windows xp pro operating system and choose when I boot up as
to which hard drive (Operating system) will be active?

Hi:

Yep, when you go install the new OS, it will ask you were do you want to
install it. If you select the second Hard disk (HD), it will modify the file
boot.ini, to let you select with version you want to load, every time you
boot your machine.

installing an older OS after the newer one is installed messing up the boot loader.
there are programs available to fix the boot loader after the fact.
one is
VistaBootPro
it will run on xp or vista.
if you install xp after installing vista just run it on xp to fix the dual boot manager.
