I am running Windows XP Pro trying to set up a dual monitor. I have a video
card that supports dual monitors (display settings show 1 and 2). What I
get is 2 monitors with both showing the same thing and not an "extended"
screen. When I go into the 2nd monitor and select the check box for
"extended desktop" then close or apply the check box becomes unchecked
(won't save the changes). What am I doing wrong here? Could it be the
cable I have that is Doing the splitting but instead is just showing a copy
image to both monitor monitors?

Thanks!

Richard,
some video cards need a reboot for exttended to ork. Have you
rebooted yet?

*The* cable? I'm not sure I understand. Do you have one split cable
going to two monitors?

You need two cables, one going to each monitor, and each connected to
one of the two ports on your video card.

This vidio card only has one VGA port on it and a Y cable. What I don't
know is if cables come in 2 forms... show the same image on 2 different
screens and extended desktop viewing. I have gone through the check box on
extended desktop but the check box will not stay enabled with either an
Apply or OK and even a reboot. I am missing something here and I don't know
what to try next.
