Dual head AIW cards?

P

Prometheus Xex

I have an 8500 AIW and would like to upgrade.

Can any on the latest AIW cards support output to 2 DVI monitors with
independent resolutions (not cloned)? Or should I look to a duel head card
with independent TV capture.

Suggestions?

Forgot to ask... does a DVI splitter achieve what I want? (No cloning
remember).

Thanks. But still want to know if the latest or second lasted AIW with or
without DVI splitter will allow for 2 monitors and independent resolutions.

If it's for answers like yours, I think I will. Since your apparent lack of
intelligence cannot comprehend the question it may be better that I take
your advice. My feelings were that I'd try to ask this question to this
newsgroup first, as many of you out there have been successfully tinkering
with these cards and may, through experience, help me out. But if this is
best answer they give in your grade 2 class, then there are no options left.

Thanks for opening my eyes. :)

The quick answer is that no AIWs have dual DVI connectors.

Thanks for the reply. Have you ever heard of the possibility of a DVI
splitter that would achieve the results I'm looking for?

I don't believe such a beast exists. All the "DVI splitters" I can find
any information on are designed to simply send the same signal to
multiple destinations (ie. "cloned").

Your only option is probably to get a dual-head, non-AIW card for
display, and a separate tuner/capture card. Fortunately there are
numerous options available with PCI, USB and Firewire interfaces. I'm
looking at a Hauppauge WinTV-Go card for my wife's computer (she wants
to record some of her TV shows - PCI interface, remote control, IR
blaster... and best of all, no ATI MultiMedia Center, which is a real
POS. I don't know how its software rates, but it can't be as flaky as
MMC. See http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/products/data_goplus.html

I believe I'm going as your suggesting. My only problem is whether to go
AGP or the PCI-E version of one of the duel head cards.

Unless you have one of the rare dual-standard motherboards or intend to
replace your motherboard at the same time as the video board that has been
decided for you--if you have an AGP slot you go with AGP, if you have a PCI
Express slot you go with PCI Express.

I was deciding to change the MOBO but in the future. Wonder if a PCIE card
would run on a PCI MOBO at reduced performance. This way I could do a major
upgrade in the near future.

Nope. PCI and PCI-E are entirely different animals.

Thanks. I've decided to continue this conversation on a hardware newsgroup
about selecting a better MOBO

I do feel you need to do some reasearch on your own before you post to
that other newsgroup.
