dual booting x32 and x64 windowsxp

George Economos

Hi all,

I have been trying to setup my machine to dual boot into 32-bit and
64-bit windows xp. I have tried many combinations of the install, 32
first, 64 first, same drive different partitions, different drives,
etc. Nothing seems to work. While both will install, the second OS
that is installed does not get installed on the c:. Instead it will
get installed on the next available drive letter from previous
installation. In my case e:

I noticed that neither installer (32 or 64) detects that an operating
system is already installed. I'm not sure if this has to do with my
sata controllers ( SATALink 3114)? They required the drivers to be set
during install on both installations.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
George Economos

What do the boot.ini files on both drives contain?
(You can edit them, copy them, etc. with Notepad, and
they'll be located at C:\boot.ini and F:\boot.ini ).
They control the menu presented by the boot manager
during multi-booting, and it's possible that just adding
a line to one or both of them would solve your problem.
Also important - can you boot the 2nd HD by putting
it 1st in the BIOS' HD boot sequence or by removing
the drive that currently gets booted?
