Dual Booting and can't Upgrade

Howdy Folks,
I am Dual Boot Win XP Pro and Vista Home Premium, and having a booting
problem. System won't boot without the install Disk in the drive. Thinking
that if I upgrade to Vista Ultimate and during the upgrade it will fix the
boot issue. Now I start the upgrade on Friday evening on or about 5pm and by
11am on Saturday the upgrade is not complete. It apparently stuck at 68%
completion on the final stages of the upgrade.
Is there a way to reslove this issue and make the upgrade quicker and
painless?

I also have a dual boot and it works perfectly.
Did you have a separate partition for vista before you started the install?

Amir Facade, thanks for a quick reply. Sorry I didn't explain this a little
better, actually both OSs are installed in seperate drives. Vista is
installed in "C" and XP is installed in "D" and there are eight drives in
the system.

Are any of them SATA drives?
