Dual boot with Win98SE

I'm one of the 98SE fans who frequent MSFN.org. I've been using my systems
with a gig of RAM running 98SE for years. I make the adjustents first thing
to make it stable. The proper adjustments are also set when installing the
Unofficial 98SE Service Pack and 98SE2ME.

Interesting that Vista depends on those files existing on a legacy OS. I
guess it doesn't take into account that 98SE won't have them.

I didn't encounter that because I set up 98SE, XP, and Vista partitions
using Partition Magic 8's floppy disk. So, Vista didn't install its boot
menu. BootMagic wouldn't detect an OS on the Vista partition so I
uninstalled that.

What I do is have Partition Magic installed on both the 98SE and XP
partitions, and I copied the Windows folder of PQBOOT from the Partition
Magic 8 cd to a PQBOOT folder on my Vista drive.

I simply run PQBOOT32 from a shortcut I added to the StartMenu with adm.
privileges. There's a compatibilty warning, but as long as I don't install
the whole program it doesn't mess with Vista's disk management.

From the other partitions there's the fancier Windows GUI that PM installs
to the StartMenu, PQBoot for Windows. It works the same though. You click
the partition you want, PQBOOT hides the other 2 and sets the one you checked
(or typed in with the Vista command window) active and reboots to it.

Vista will no longer successfully restore to any restore points, but I've
read that folks using the traditional Extended, Logical drive method with the
Vista Boot Loader get their Restore Points deleted whenever XP boots, so it
wouldn't be any better. I just turned off System Restore in Vista so my hard
drive wouldn't grind on for no good reason.

So I have 3 Primary Partitions and each one is completely seperate. I like
that better.

System Restore in Vista now has the Roxio GoBack method of also saving file
versions as they get changed. Nice idea, but I noticed the same problem I
used to have when using GoBack. The hard drive would thrash for quite some
time after doing anything that involved it updating file versions and
recording changes to the system. That destroyed one of my drives before its
time. Stopped using GoBack for that reason. Now, all that chugga, chugga
nonsense is built in to Vista.

Well, at least I've read that only the Ultimate Edition will have that
"feature." Since I'll likely end up with Home Premium, I'll be saved that
"helpful" hard drive abuser. Try to edit video with that thing running!
