dual boot problem

I have Asus Board & 40 GB seagate HDD. I made four (6
GB, 10GB, 11 GB,11GB) FAT32 partition using windows 98
startup floppy disk and also formatted them. Installed
win98 in Drive C.But when I tried to install WinXP in
drive D about 5 minutes after installation process start
shows an error message "Error in Drive C. Installation
Aborted. Press F3 to reboot".But win 98 is running fine
and scandisk shows no errors.

I can't understand what to do to install winXP.
Any one can help me in this regard.

Boot up in win98 then put xp cd in it will ask u to
upgrade or do new install choose new when it does its
thing it will prompt u to choose the location to install
at that point direct it to the partition u intend to
install too
