Ken

I have just done a full format on my system and reinstalled XP Pro. When it
boots I get the screen asking me what OS to boot.
The 2 choices are XP Pro or XP Pro, I tried both. They are the same OS.

How can I fix this problem?

TIA, Ken

Same happend to me.. When I reformatted I chose quick instead of a full
format. I had to reformat and choose full and it worked.

I did do a full format. It takes longer and the drive came out of another
machine.

DUAL BOOT REMOVAL ==========================2 instances of
XP==========================
Control Panel > System > Advanced > Startup and Recovery Settings > Edit.
Carefully remove the
2nd reference to your non-existent installation.

Assuming you are running XP on C: and do not have a second O/S installed, you
should carefully edit your "boot.ini file". It should look similar to this:

[boot loader]
timeout=0
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home"
/fastdetect

P.S. DO NOT EDIT-OUT OR REMOVE THE FIRST REFERENCE TO WINDOWS XP OR YOUR
COMPUTER WILL FAIL TO BOOT

That did it! Thanks so much. Seems someone always has the right answer.

Thanks again!
