DsRemoveDsDomainW error 0x2162

Hello

We have a single forest with one domain. We used to have a child domain but
I wanted to remove this. The last DC for this domain wouldnt demote
gracefully, so I have used NTDSUTIL on article 216498, then i tried to
follow intructions on article 230306. But when I try to remove the domain I
get "DsRemoveDsDomainW error 0x2162 There exists other domain controllers
that host this domain".

All DNS entires for the old domain have been removed, I have trawled through
ADSIEDIT looking for any references to the old domain. The only single
reference I can find for the old domain is in Configuration Container >
CN=Configuration > CN-Partitions. If I try to remove the entry, again I get
"The requested domain could not be deleted....."

I have searched through this newsgroup, and everyone refers to the 2
articles above, which I have followed but without success.

Any ideas anyone?

Pacman, Did you marked the last DC as the last DC in the DCPROMO demonation
wizard?

You need to remove references manually with Ldp or Adsiedit.

I've sorted it now. there was a rogue NTDS Object in LostandFoundConfig
under configuration. Deleted this, then i was able to remove the domain.
