DSL Slow, Network Monitoring Software

A

Adam Hicks

The problem is that our DSL internet is really slowing
down. I've been doing some speed test and it's normally
averaging around 100 kilobits per second where it used to
about 2 weeks ago average about 400-450 kilobits per
second. I would like to find out some way to tell which
computer is pulling all of the bandwidth away from the
DSL line. I hooked my laptop directly up to the DSL box
and ran it and it was very fast. So I know it's not the
line coming in. The DSL box is hooked into a cisco Pix
506e firewall and then to then to the network.

Does anyone have any sugguestions on what to try, how to
find out what computer is causing the problem.

Thanks Adam

You got some really crappy service from SBC - they put me
on a copper pair at first while I was dial-up. Then,
when DSL was available, they put in a whole line just for
me. I'm at the end of a long drop throughout the
subdivision. I also was able to sign up four other
accounts since DSL was available.

The two typpes of broadband here vary from area to area,
let alone between types. Cable is usually 500kbps and dsl,
when done within the distance spec is usually choice
500kbps, 640kbps, 1.0mbps, 1.5mbps with downloading streams
according to a maximum bitrate of 10 percent of the total
Bandwidth.
