DSL + LAN issues

Hello. I need some help and I hope you can supply it. I
have 3 pcs on an LAN. Machine #1 is running win98. #2 is
win xp pro, and #3 is win xp home edition. I am using an
SMC router/switch. My network was working great, up until
we went to high speed (dsl) internet access.

Now, I have the DSL modem conected to the router/switch by
ethernet cable, and then each computer connected to the
router as usual. I am able to access the high speed
internet from any of the pcs, but I can't access any pc
from another. My LAN is not working

I can "ping" all three computers. Their addresses are
192.168.2.100, 101, and 102.

Any advice you can offer me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There are several thing you need to browse computers over
the network. 1. ALL pc's must have file and print
sharing ,2. ALL pc's must have client for microsoft
networks installed. 3. They must all be connected to the
same domain/workgroup.

Try that.

Good luck.

Darren,

what's the IP address of the router? The SMC routers usually
have DHCP. For that to work, you should set your computers' IP
addresses and DNS settings to automatic and make sure the DHCP
server is enabled in the router. That's usually the best way to
go about things.

Check all related router settings, because if you've only made
changes on the router, then these are the probable cause.

Which SMC router is it, anyway?

I would try a couple other things in addition to what you
have done. Go into network properties and make sure the
workgroup names all match. I would also us the Network
set up wizard on the XP pro machine. It will prompt you
to make a setup disc. Follow the instructions and install
this on the Windows 98 machine. If none of this works, I
would turn off all the machines and unplug them from the
router. Then reset the router with only the DSL
connected. Now plug each machine in one by one so the
DHCP picks them up.
