What are the pros and cons of connecting your computer by way of an USB port
vs network ethiernet cord? I have SBC Internet using the 2Whire 1000
modium.

Thank you;
David

Hi

If the 2wire 1000 does not provide USB2.0 (and or your computer does not
support USB2.0) you limit your Network traffic to USB 1.1, 11Mb/sec.
(Regular Ethernet is 100Mb/sec.), 11Mb/sec. is good enough for the Internet
but might be too slow for Local Network Traffic (LAN).

Jack (MVP-Networking).

Use the Ethernet connection if you have it. The coonnections will be much
easier to setup.

CONs for USB only connection:

You can not easily install a broadband router so as to allow the DSl signal to
be "shared" among may PCs. If you use USB, the the PC that has it connected
must also have Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) also configured. This can
cause problems with a lot of software and can pose a security risk to this PC
(data theft.)
