HELP!!!
I seem to have a problem with one computer on my network,
(not all), where after some length of time (1-2) hours of
inactivity, my network connection no longer works. It
still shows connected @ 100 MBPS, I hae checked anything
I can find that might time out, but to no avail. I would
appreciate any help as I am getting tired of rebooting to
re-establish my connection!!!!!!!

Hi -

I suspect power managment on your PC is shutting off your
network card. If you go into Device Manager and right-
click the network adapter, on the properties page you'll
find a spot where you can tell the machine not to shut
off the network adapter to save power.

Hope this helps -

I have checked all power settings, and they are OK. Any
other thoughts?????

SAME here - I am on xp pro - abit ic7-G motherboard. Initially i thought
that this was a zone alarm 5 problem but after a complete (clean)
uninstall of ZA , the problem at first disappeared but has now returned.
I am wondering of it might be related to a new windows update patch -
like maybe the "BITS" one or ?

ipconfig shows all ok.
i can ping my network but nothing outside it
release/renew etc to no avail.

In the end i disable = then delete the network adapter - reboot and let
it reinstall and then let network wizard set me up again. At that stage
it works 99% of the time. The failure times - well i shut down and try
again later.

I do NOT use hibernation or standby
I have had this happen with and without a screen saver and i only use
the standard xp ones anyway

I can use the internet = then let the system sit for awhile - 15 or more
minutes and then often but not always the internet connection is gone.

ANY IDEAS would be appreciated -
thanks
jon

SAME problem here under XP pro fully updated.
I originally thought it was a zonealarm 5 problem - contacted then and
they had me do a clean (total ?) uninstall. Seemingly i was ok for a
week but now it is back.

Loose internet
ping my router and this pc works fine but nothing beyond my router
exists. OR at times i cannot ping and the error code (microsoft) says
zone alarm problem.

ipconfig / all shows fine
release/renew does not resolve the problem nor does flushing the dns cache.

I do not use standby or hibernation.
it will happen with either screen saver or without.

my best ( but not always ) fix is to disable -uninstall network adapter
- reboot - let windows reinstall adapter (intel ct-1000 ) and then use
xp wizard to reset the network. This works most of the time

ANY Ideas?

thanks
john
