The annoying tendency of the Internet Connection icon in the system tray to
disappear on certain mouseovers has, I think, on my LAN XP Home machine been
traced to MSN Messenger 6.1. It frequently (but not only) seems to do this
when MSN Messenger is trying to log in. Any ideas please?

I might add that another annoying behaviour in relation to MSN Messenger 6.1
is it fight with Windows Messenger as to which logs on first giving silly
messages that I am trying to connect from another computer, duh!! Any ideas
on that one as well please as well?

The lan connection icon doesn't need to be displayed, so why not just set it
not to show and not worry about it.
As for messenger, choose which one you want to use and uninstall the other
one. Post back if you need instructions on uninstalling windows messenger.

Thanks Purplhax but isn't Windows Messenger needed for Outlook Express and a
few other MS programs?

Why can't MS make them work properly together (ie, the log-on behaviour)?

As to the icon, I know it's sad but I find the flashing little critters
comforting somehow. It reassues me that something is coming down the tube as
it were.

:-)

Thanks

Greg

Outlook express and other programs can use windows messenger, but its not
needed for the programs to run corectly. You just have to shut off the
option in the program to use windows messenger, then ununstall it(if you
want)
They can work topgether, you have to go into each messengers options and set
one to start with windows and run in the background and set the other to not
start and not run in boackground. MSconfig may be used to stop one from
loading as well.
Since I don't use msn messenger I don't know if that is just a bug with it
or not, sorry.
