I have just checked Windows Updates and it is showing three drivers
available for download for my computer.

The drivers are:-

nVidia nForce Audio (download size 637Kb - Date published 5/27/2006)

Silicon Image's Pseudo Processor Device (download size 165Kb - Date
published 5/31/2006)

Silicon Image Sil3114 Softraid 5 Controller (download size162Kb -
Date 5/31/2006)

Unfortunately when checking the description of the drivers there is no
'driver version' shown and clicking on Driver details and then 'More
Information' link URL displays a web page that states:-
Coming Soon
Thank you for using Windows Update. The More information feature is not available yet. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I have never downloaded drivers from Windows Update before always
preferring to go the manufacturers website for driver updates, so far
I have not been able to trace the above named drivers on the
manufacturers website. Maybe I did not look hard engough!

Will downloading these drivers be likely to cause any problems, I
suppose I could create 'a system restore point' prior to downloading
them.

I would not download any driver updates from MS until I was convinced of two
things:

a) my system is vulnerable ito failure if I do not update these driver
updates and,

b) there is no way to get these updates from the mfg website.

Take your time unless you are informed that this is a critical issue.

And YES, now would be an excellent time to do a COMPLETE backup by whatever
method you choose.

Good luck

Thanks for the advice Mark.

I prefer to know the driver version before downloading and this is not
mentioned on the Windows Update site, will try checking the
manufacturers websites again for the files mentioned.

Win update has in the past supplied drivers that have been corrupt (Sil to
name one) and version numbers do not neccessarily tally with the manu
version number.
In any case unless a driver gives greater functionality or cures a bug there
is little point in updating a functioning sys.

After seeing your remark about Win update supplying drivers in the
past that have been corrupt I will steer clear of getting drivers from
that source!

On reflection I might be a bit hasty in wishing to download drivers
for a system on which I have no problems! :-)
