I have been recovering from a hard disk problem, I had everything back to
normal, but then ried to install some drivers from a CD I had gotten with my
PC, it locked up and now cannot boot even in safe mode. I looked at the list
in recovery console and found these 4 at least:
ac97intc - intel 82801 audio install service (wdm)
agp440 - intel agp bus filter
e100b intel (R) pro adapter driver
IntelATA - Intel ultra ata controller

I was most susipcious of the last one. I turned them all off in recovery
console but this did not help. What should I do next? Is there another driver
that I can just run on? Can I go back to a restore point if I cannot get into
safe mode? I hope I do not have to re-load windows (again). Thanks for the
help.

You would have thought that most people would have realised the importance of
having restorable backups of the system for use in a case such as this one,
but it seems that they still prefer the reinstallation of everything approach.

Are you sure that it's driver corruption? It's more likely to be bad RAM or
a failing hard drive.

You can use this free RAM testing program from a floppy disk:

http://www.memtest86.com/

And you can try using the hard disk diagnostic program that the manufacturer
of your hard drive provides from its site - if you get up and running.

If you can enter the BIOS, try enabling the failsafe or default settings.
