drive reads as scsi drive problem

well, i let someone on my computer and sure enough, they've screwed it up! my
new problem; six of my drives (3 hard drives, 2 dvd drives, and a zip drive)
all read as scsi drives. i've been working on this problem for a month and i
just can't get it straighten out. i've fdisk'ed a hard drive, fresh
installed of XP, and flashed the motherboard BIOS - all at the same time, and
still they read as scsi drives. the only two drives that don't read as scsi
drives are the two drives on IDE 0 (master and slave).
my stuff:
Gigabyte motherboard GA-8I915P Duo v2
2 250GB WD HD, 1 160GB WD HD, 1 120GB WD HD, 1 40GB WD HD
a Sony and a Lite-On dvd burner, a Iomaga 250 zip drive
2 GB RAM, 3.4 Intel P4 processor, and a floppy drive

i have looked for and tried every utility i could find that i thought might
do something, i have tried EVERYTHING i can think of to no avail. i need help.

XP doesnt use FDisk...Either way,simply power off pc (unplug),remove the
battery,locate & move the CMOS jumper pin from 1-2 to 2-3 position for .30
to .45 seconds or so,then back to 1-2 position,replace battery,start
pc.You'll
need to reset basic BIOS settings before start up,& for add-ons,etc,but this
resets youre BIOS & CMOS (youre BIOS is still at latest version)...

but unfortunatly i've already done that a couple of times, but i did it
again just to make sure. i didn't fdisk a couple of hard drives with XP, i
used "killdisk" and booted to a floppy to fdisk the drives. Killdisk kills
the mbr and everything on a drive, it's pretty through. i have flashed every
BIOS in every piece of hardware in my compouter from the motherboard to the
Promise Technology 133TX2 ide pci card. everything has the latest drivers
and BIOS. i did find bits and pieces of info on the internet, but no solution
as how to fix it. it's not really causing any damage right now, but i just
can't stand it to have everything in my computer labeled SCSI drives. i put
in a new hard (from someone else's computer), and my computer picked that one
up as a scsi drive also. i'm pretty sure the problem is in my motherboard
somewhere in the controllers, but i just can't fix it.
please help.

Do the drives work?

If so, forget about it and go on with your life.

It's a known problem with some hardware/motherboard/controller
combinations. Doesn't affect "real" operation in the slightest.

Happened to me twice on two different W2K installs, the hardware
worked FINE, all benchmarks were what they were supposed to
be, I ignored the false enumeration of the hardware and got back to work.

important question: do they still all work????? Other that seeing the
drives as scsi, is there a problem?

Here's what likely happened: you have 8 bloody drives, that's a lot.
Most computers have 2 ide controllers, for a total of 4 drives.
Overcoming this limit involves the use of a pci hard dirve controller.
If you actually have 4 ide controllers on board, almost certianly, 2 of
them are attached to the pci bus (though not a card). Anyway, back to
the explaination. The use of these controller cards will make drives
idenify as scsi. No other "symptoms" I'm afraid you've been trying to
correct a non problem. Sorry.

Its normal to have the Promise ide card connected drives termed as scsi by
windows. What's left, and what are they connected to?

I also use the Promise card, have used from the ultra 33 all the way to the 133. Any hard drive
connected to the card reads as SCSI in Windows. This is normal behavior, what does it matter what
it is labeled as long as it works.
