As long as it is not the drive holding the system, you can change it using
Disk Management. Click start/run, type diskmgmt.msc and click ok. Right
click a drive to begin. Again, you cannot under any circumstances change the
drive letter assigned the system partition. The only way to do that is to
start all over again.
Control Panel - Admin Tools - Computer Management, select Disk
Management and look lower right for the graphic of the drive. R-click
in a partition (other than the system's one) or on a CD icon, Change
Drive letter
My new drive somehow is called I: When I add the old drive in line it is
called C:
So there is no way to change the I: new drive to C: Is a complete format
necessary?
If I: holds the system, then there is no way to change it. Reinstalling is
the only waym and actually you will need to do two things:
1) Remove whatever device is currently holding the C: designation.
Frequently, tape or zip drives cause this issue. You can reattach them
later.
2) Do not just reformat. During setup you will want to remove the existing
system partition and create a new one from the free space. Then format and
install.
