Drive Letter

On XP Pro system, default drive letter of my CDROM is F, which is clashing
with my network mappings. I tried changing CDROM drive letter through
Computer Management several times. It works fine for few days and then goes
back to F. Whenever I change drive letter from F, I always restart system to
make sure it stays. But after every few weeks, it goes back to F. What could
be causing that and how can I permanently fix it?

If the CD-Rom drive disappears/re-appears in Device Manager, then the drive
letter changes the the next available drive letter.

How is the CD-Rom drive installed onto your system (internal/external???)
