Drive letter assignment

I am running Windows XP Pro and it is on the domain network. We have several
drives that are mapped during login, they are script do to so. One example
is F:\FST\DATA

Every time I try to use a USB Flash drive or USB hard drive it keep taking
one of the script drive letter (mostly the F drive). I have to go into disk
manager every time and change the drive letter to one we don't use in our
script. I need to do this so both the USB and script mapping will show up to
access them.

Is there a way to stop this from happening?

Thank you,
KA

KAT:

I had problems with drive letters changing on me. Someone referred me to
this link:

I plan to give it a try, for $6.00, as I need to keep my drive letters
constant so scripts and backup software depending on mapped drives will work
properly.

I've been hibernating my machine, but got the problems when I reboot, and
particularly if I add or remove USB devices.

It is precisely because of the potential for this type of conflict

that it is common practice among domain administrators to

map drives in the upper ranges of the alphabet.
