Drive Letter Issue

Hello. I am having a problem with Drive letter Assignments, or the lack of
being able to auto assign specific drive letters to removeable media. Such
as Thumb Drives, External HDD, etc... I currently have mapped drives set up
for all users at my facility. Which some would say just make a change the
batch file (if you use one) to the drive letters other then the ones you use
now. Here in lies the problem. We have software (ie. Access Databases) that
are hard coded to specific drive letters, and the person that administers the
database is no longer at our facility.

Now my question being agian. Is there a way some how with out, I repeat
WITH OUT useing out side software such as the one found here

http://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbdlm_e.html

which this happens to be a created service that automatically assigns
specific drive letters to removeable media.

If anyone has a fix with-in windows is seft to be able to do this that would
greatly apreciated.

Connect each USB device once and manually set it to use the drive letter you
wish, in disk management. It should remember that device A is assigned
letter X. Etc.

This doesn't help you with devices you don't have handy now, and is a pain
to do, assuredly. Not sure why you don't want to use the utility you linked
to...I use it all the time and have been very happy with it.

Not sure what else to tell you - I know of no other way around this.

Thank you for the replay Lanwench.

I do believe that I have found a way at least part of the way to get to
where I need to go. All I need to do now is follow the yellow brick road and
see where it takes me lol. Seriously I did find something VERY VERY helpfull
on the web. I went to this website.

The gentlemen that posted this on this site talks about the same issue that
I am currently having, and makes a good point as to what he used to
accomplish this goal. He also is very kind in giving the files to down load
for free on the site. The only thing that I have to do now is get the batch
file to auto recognize when a drive is put in and sees the drive letter E:

I really really hope that others are able to find this post very helpfull in
the area of the same problem that I am tackleing right now.
