Drive Image 7/V2I-Protector Problem under XP-Pro

While Drive Image 7 ist running well under W2K-Pro it is making
trouble under XP-Pro. After its installation it cannot be started. The
reason seems to be the V2I-service that is also unable to start. M-Net
frameworks has been properly installed before. In an older article the
problem has been discribed as a problem of a bad dll-file which has to
be replaces:

I could not find one word on this at the official support-webpages.
Unfortuately Drive Image has gone from Powerquest to Symantec now.
Proper support does not seem to be there any more. I can not believe
that this problem is so rare that I will not find anything on this
dll. So I would really apperciate if someone could make a suggestion
on this. Obviously Drive Image 7 is installed on many systems even
under Windows XP-Pro without a problem? Thanks a lot for all comments.

I uninstalled DI 2002 and installed V7.0 last week, because their website
says 2002 is only for Windows up to ME, & V7.0 is for XP.

A complete crash followed, which wiped out all my Restore Points, Graphics
card software, Cordless mouse & keyboard software plus several other things.
I couldn't even boot into Safemode (although I was able to get into the
screen), eventually went back to Last Good Config., which didn't really
config completely, but allowed me to boot up again - 8 hrs. of work,
including downloading 8 Hotfixes which had also mysteriously disappeared I
was happy that my system was up and running properly again.
So, I'm back with DI 2002.

The general concensus of opinion on this NG (if you want to do a search back
over the last week or two) is to stick with 2002.

I always get nervous when another company takes over a reputable product.
Why, oh why, don't they take the programmers across as well?

If you use Drive Image 2002 strictly from a DOS partition (as I do), or boot
up from the 2 floppy emergency set, you will never have any problems imaging
or restoring Windows XP.

Symantec does provide support for Drive Image. I am having no problems with
Drive Image 7.0.1 on Windows XP Home.

Perhaps an update to Drive Image 7 will fix your problem. An update to
Drive Image 7.0.3 was released on Mar 1, 2004 and is available here:

Thanks for this link. I just tested DI7.0 with a friends NB with
XP-home installed: No problems at all. Seems to be a problem of XP-pro
so far. I will download the update now and report on it.

Yep, never had any probs with 2002 before, it was more a word of warning to
anyone who may make an erroneus selection from the Website's
recommendations.

Unfortunately the update on 7.03 does not a change a thing. Still have
the V2I-protector problem to start Drive Image.

Just for your info my DI 7.0 version 2.0.1.309 works just fine under
Win-XP. I use it twice a week in regular Windows mode without any problems.
I did have LOTS of problems at first, but tech support solved them all -
good luck.

Just one more thought on this. Could the IBM-Preload with its own
restoring and backup programmes cause the trouble with installing DI7?
I use an IBM-R50 notebook.
