drive does not reconnect at logon

I have a small network with 2 XP home workstations and a windows 98 machine.
I have the C: drive on the 98 machine mapped to F : on the workstations.
Reconnect at logon is checked. When I restart the XP machines there is a red
"X" on the mapped drive. If I double click on the drive it connects. Is
there some other setting I am missing?

All help is greatly appreciated.

This is default behaviour and does not indicate a problem. I think
this is for to speed up the startup process. It cannot be changed.
