I have a 100meg zip drive (USB Drive-G:) and a Compact Flash reader (USB
Drive H:) I use the zip drive mainly to view stored pictures. I have a
data base of the pictures, which contains hyper-links to open the files.
All these hyper-links start with the drive letter-G.

For some reason, XP keeps changing these drive assignments around which
makes my hyper-links useless. I figured out how to go into Computer Manager
and change them back, but is there anyway to stop this from continually
happening??

Thanks,
Terry

Hi Terry,

A bug in WinXP causes it to see zip drives as hard drives sometimes. This is
why it often gets relettered after you restart the system. The solution is
to detach the zip drive and reinstall WinXP, you can reattach it afterwards
and it should retain its "new" drive designation. Follow these steps to do a
repair install which should preserve your data, settings, and programs:

1. Insert the Windows XP CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM
drive.
2. Restart your computer. If you have to, change the BIOS settings to start
from
the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer again.
3. At the "Welcome to Setup" page, press ENTER.
4. Press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement.
5. Use the arrow keys to select the installation of Windows XP that you want
to
repair, and then press R to start the automatic repair process.
6. When Setup is completed, activate Windows XP.

Note that you will need your Product Key for this procedure, so have it
handy before you begin.
