this maybe a noob question, but when you have a movie running as desktop is
there anyway to get sound?

Yes there is

Double click speaker Icon / mixer and uncheckmute in dreamscene

When I was asked the same question, I was told categorically no.. thanks for
the heads up.. I just tried it with a wmv file of a low flying Spitfire..
broken sound and stilted video playback make it unusable.. I might just stay
with the NO answer.. :-)

Works fine here with everything I've ever tried, its just annoying as far as
I'm concerned

It could be that running on twin screens makes for bad reproduction.. with
sound off, it was little better, and as you say, quite annoying.. ..
