dreamscene stopped working properly after updates

dreamscene stopped working properly after two latest dreamscene related
updates. when i open both old and new dreamscene videos in any installed
player they work fine. however, when i set any of them as desktop background
this is what i get:
http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/735/dsdesktopxh8.jpg

it looks like a codec problem so i uninstalled k-lite codec pack,
vistacodecpack, xvid codec and rebooted. nothing changed. i even installed
optional ati driver update (was using the same version which i installed
manually before) and still no luck.

any ideas what else to check?

that reminds me of an xvid codec problem...
download the koepi xvid codec from here

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Koepi_XviD.htm

if that does not fix it install the divx codec from www.divx.com that is
now vista compatible

nope, nothing made it work.

btw, i doubt it's divx/xvid problem as dreamscene video files are in mpeg
format. if i convert them to wmv they work on desktop but there is a nasty
2-3 sec system freeze on looping point.

might be relevant, it's vista ultimate x64.

got it fixed. :)

- go to http://www.jtow.net/users/triess/ and download and install both
vista codec pack (both vista x86 and x64) + x64 components (vista x64
only)
- vista x86 and x64: click start->vista codecs->32bit tools->mpeg settings->
classic mpeg playback (m2p)
- vista x64: click start->vista codecs->64bit tools->set mpeg2 support->
enable classic playback
- vista x64: start->vista codecs->64bit tools->set mpeg2 support->enable
classic registry item

that's it. enjoy the dreamscene.

I had this exact same problem, but the Vista Codecs fix mentioned above did
not work. I still had this problem even with all codec packs uninstalled.

I managed to solve this by uninstalling Power DVD. Through the removal
process it did warn me that a Power DVD "Video Filter" file was in use (and
I had no programs running) so I selecter the option to remove after a reboot.
I rebooted and Dreamscene was now working ok.
