DreamScene going black

When I select any video with dreamscene the background just goes black.
However, I can see the thumbnail preview.

My video card is an Asus EN7900GS (with newest driver), which supposedly
should work. My processor is an AMD 3700+. Could it be a performance issue
where I need a dual core? or is there a driver that I should have downloaded?

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories and right-click
on the Command Prompt and choose "Run as administrator".
Type in: SFC /SCANNOW and press your Enter key.

This should replace/repair any corrupted system files.

If that does not work, try using System Restore to go back to earlier point
in time before you were experiencing this problem.

I also have this issue. I have an AMD XP 2400 2.0GHZ, 2GB ram, and an ATI
Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb video card. I was originally able to view dream scene
when I first got Ultimate. I haven't been using it in awhile and decided to
go back to dream scene which now just shows a black backdrop. I can see the
thumbnails though.

The scannow didn't find anything. And there wasn't a point when this worked.
Please don't tell me I have to re-install windows...

Try repairing your system. Boot from your Windows
Vista DVD, select the System Repair Option > on the setup screen, select
'Repair Computer > Select your installation of Windows > select Startup
Repair option and follow instructions.

I tried the repair, but it didn't work. Oddly, it didn't take very long to
run that process (about a few seconds...) I was expecting a scan, some
installations, etc.. However, when I rebooted after the repair and attempted
the dreamscene, explorer errored and I had to install an update (still didn't
work).

After that I tried a system restore from as far back as I could go, but that
didn't work either.

I managed to get it working!!

I uninstalled my graphic driver, started up again in safe mode (since normal
mode has no graphic driver) and installed an older driver version. After
restarting into normal mode, it started working.

Actually, it's not quite working. When I rebooted after installing the older
driver it worked, but then when I shut down the computer and turned it back

I tried refreshing the background and I already downloaded deskscape. I still
get the same problem.

What sort of things could be different with the driver between the start up
after installation of the driver and a casual start up? i.e. could windows be
running in a certain mode to try out the new graphic driver?

AHA! I got it... again! This time I uninstalled all ASUS graphic related
software (SmartDoctor, Gamer OSD), and when I unistalled the driver I check
the box that said "delete driver software".

After reboot, went into safe mode, installed the same driver that was
working (didn't try the newer one yet). After reboot, it was working, so I
installed SmartDoctor, but not Gamer OSD. And now it works perfectly!

Thanks for your ideas and your help getting me through this! :D
