Drawing tool

When I am modifying a drawing in Word, and I select a tool such as a line,
when I click on the location I want to start it, a box labeled "Create
drawing here" comes up. It looks like a PowerPoint box. I have to click on an
object in the drawing, then click where I want to draw. Is there any way to
turn OFF all the help Word forces on me?

To turn off that specific "help":
Select Tools > Options > General tab and turn off “Automatically create
drawing canvas when inserting AutoShapesâ€.
