Insert text box generates Create your Drawing Here (2003)

I want to insert a text box into my Word doc. The system gives me a box with
"create your drawing here.". When I click in that 'drawing box', the message
goes away, gives me a 'text' box, but the original drawing box won't go away.
How do I get Word to give me a text box without giving me a drawing box that
limits me?

In Word 2003 or earlier, click on Tools | Options | General tab |
uncheck the "Automatically create drawing canvas" box | OK.
