Drawing tool bar

When I choose fill color or line color, the options are greyed out. Where
are the colors to choose from? How do I get them back?
 
Do you have an AutoShape selected when you click on the buttons?

I figured it out. I needed to use the icons in the Tables and Borders tool
bar and not the drawing tool bar.

Yes, this is a bit confusing. Word uses the same button images for Fill
Color and Shading Color (paint bucket) and for Line Color and Border Color
(pencil), but the former apply to AutoShapes and other drawing objects (such
as text boxes) and the latter to text and tables.
