Drawing Objects

Is there a way to automatically tell Word 2002 to not to move text as I
attempt to create something via the Drawing toolbar? I just much rather do
the spacing myself and overlay the objects on top of the document as if they
are floating objects.

Example:

----BeginningOfDocument----

Application

Query Processor

Oracle Spreadsheet ISAM File System

----EndOfDocument----

In the above example, you see how I lay out the text part, but then I would
like to insert arrows without Word 2002 moving the text just to insert a
drawing area.

Hi Ronald,

How do you insert your arows?

On my system (Word 2002), the text does not budge when I draw arrows. In
fact, on my system, all autoshapes are by default "floating"...
I did not sdee any options that would allow us to change the default
behaviour when inserting autoshapes...

Ronald,

If I understand correctly, when you insert an autoshape in
text it is moving the text. Is this correct?

Select the autoshape, right click and choose format
autoshape>layout. Select behind or in front of text and
click OK. Right click the autoshape again and select set
autoshape default.

All future autoshapes will insert per your formatted
setting.

Sorry for the late response as I was doing other things, but anyhow, that is
a start in the direction that I would like to have. Thank you for the help,
Greg. I also was looking in other areas, but didn't think of looking in the
right click of the drawn object to set such settings.

At least we now have the text no longer moving.

Now, is there a way to create autoshapes without necessarily it being tied
to a drawing area or is there a way to have the drawing area not act as
though it's filled in during the time it's being drawn? It doesn't look
like though this second issue is within the format as I'm working with line
arrows, so the fill color part of the format dialog box is greyed out. I
would actually prefer not to have it tied to a drawing area as I did managed
to move the first line arrow out of the drawing area, which makes me wonder
if it's possible to have it by default, not tied to a drawing area, sort of
like freelance drawing.

Most of the work that I have done with MS Office has been in Excel and
Access, but am using Word for summarizing some things as I go through the
learning process of DB Programming and also for documentation purposes.
Currently, I'm going through OLE DB stuff as I found some issues with my DB
programming and wanting to get more in depth knowledge with OLE DB
programming to find out if the issues are within that part of the
programming, which currently is the 4th level down into my DB programming.
Of course, I don't expect ya to know much about DB if any, though it also be
great if you do, given this is Word, not Access, that I am having the
drawing issues. However, given the terminology and the way it's being
presented, I'm having to pick apart the materials and put it in a manner
that I understand more clearly, sort of like what one has to do with math
story problems, but only this is on a larger scale.

Found the answer to this, uncheckmark the "Automatically create drawing
canvas when inserting AutoShapes" under Tools>Options>General
